Hey all, I’m just putting this out here for discussion….
UFA is probably the biggest activity in the offseason but it’s a flurry that lasts like a week then the league dies and there’s nothing to do until the draft. I had an idea that could extend UFA a little and even add a little more strategy to UFA.
Here’s my idea-
We would do UFA by position, for example:
When UFA starts the first week or two we can only bid on WR, then the next week only RB and so on… or we can just do the first two weeks are for offensive players then the next two weeks for defensive players. This would add a strategy to UFA, do you go all in on the offense and risk not having enough money to bid on defensive players? I think this would break up UFA a little bit and add some more strategy to our offseason. As I’ve been typing this up, I’m actually liking the idea of an “Offense UFA” and a “Defense UFA”
Let’s get some comments, what do you guys think ?

I might be interested in at least talking about a UFA offense and UFA defense. But the position by position I don't like.
Part of this time of year, in people's lives is about getting away from it also.
This is the start of vacation time for many and drawing things out too much, adds to the attention time you have to be available for.
Ultimately, I really just be up for keeping things as it stands. But again, I'd be interested to hear thoughts on the separation of defense and offense.
But good creative thinking as always Blaine!

What I like most of all is that it is being talked about at this point for next year. My only suggestion would be to do defensive players first for maximum strategy. But I don't feel strongly about it one way or another.

I totally get wanting to spread things out as it is a very long offseason, but don't know that I'd be on board with separating offense / defense FA bidding. Agree with Eric, defense should go first (if this were to happen) as offensive prices are already much more expensive than defensive prices and having offense go before defense would cause an even bigger imbalance.
Don't think I'd vote for this change if it were to come to that, but I'm definitely on board with trying to find ways to break up the offseason more and keep everybody more engaged outside of FA / Draft.

I’m not a fan of separating UFA. I like knowing that if the bidding gets too high on RB/WR that I can move to a LB. Real UFA allows for teams to bid on anyone and move on to other players or positions if it’s not working out for them.

I like the thinking out of the box suggestion. But I am not a big fan of the separation of drafting. To many things might happen and as a owner I might be stuck in a do I risk it in UFA Defense or do I pivot and wait for the UFA Offence? To much time in between and the ship might have sailed if you wanted to go back. My only suggestion might be, a lot of teams go into UFA with a plan, but when UFA is pretty much over MFL comes in and sends out a position change list. I don't know if MFL puts out an update date on when they do this but if they do, maybe we should look into pushing back UFA date until the update has been posted. This would allow teams to pick up players that they need at the position they are now labeled as.

I want to thank everyone for their input, I’ve seen enough to know this one won’t work. We will keep UFA how it is, thank you all. I love that we can give honest feedback on my hair brained ideas haha. Thank you all again. Blaine
