Proposing allowing buyouts on all players, not just one per offseason. You could even raise the waiver percentage to something higher than 40% but this is the only league I've been in that doesn't allow for any waiver to be a buyout.
For example, I've been in this league nearly two years now and I've still got waiver hits on three players through 2022 from the previous owner. It's not a huge percentage of the cap but I owe money to TommyLee Lewis, Teez Tabor, and Marcus Allen in 2022 because the previous owner waived those players in December of 2019(!).
I have to imagine I'm not alone as I'm sure the majority of the rosters in this league have IRL FAs on multiyear deals with very little incentive to send those guys to waivers.

I’ll give my two cents, the issue with unlimited buyouts is it would eliminate any concerns to offering a UFA a high multi year contract. For example, I’d love to be able to just buyout TY Hilton contract and if I could only take a 1 year penalty that would be great. Since I can’t I really had to think it over if I wanted to pay him 20M, knowing there would be a waiver hit if I cut him. If we did buyouts it would eliminate those decisions. People wouldn’t care how much money they throw at a player because they could just buy them out. It create an unrealistic free agency and buyout period. I would be against this rule, but I’m open to hearing other opinions to see if I’m missing something. Even in your message, you highlighted the reason we keep only one buyout. It creates a decision for GMs, do I want to cut this player and have a cap hit for 4 years? Do I just sig my him for 1 or 2 years? I believe that the ability for a gm to have to think through those things is what separates this league from others.

In my money league we pay 35% for every year left on contract so if I want to buy our a 3 year contract I have to pay 105% of it...70% for a 2 yr contract.. That can seriously eat into your salary for that season but allows you nothing to owe nothing the next year
Buyouts need to hurt

I think a proposed buyout would need to be 50% at a minimum but likely even more than that. The 40% waiver rate is very soft already and for that reason, I don't believe the singular buyout is influencing very many FA bidding decisions.

If we had unlimited buyouts, would we still have waivers? What would be the point? Also, can players being bought out be claimed? I think that is the point of waivers, but I think that would become obsolete if we had unlimited buyouts

I think that is the point of waivers, but I think that would become obsolete if we had unlimited buyouts It’d still be a waiver, the waived player would still be able to be claimed, but you’d have the choice to spread out the cap hit or take the full hit in one year. It wouldn’t have any affect on the waiver process, just what type of hit you’re taking on that player if they go unclaimed.
